Welcome to the Dojo

Jan 12 2014

Hey folks,

First off thanks to everyone who participated to the discussion which started after my last article. Seeing has how people seem to be generally interested in discussing lists I decided to change the nature of my articles somewhat.

What I'm going for is to start a dialogue between the various players of the region. I'll be posting my lists that I'm thinking of bringing to the masters in May. As I play games I'll post the results and what if anything needs to be changed in the lists. What I'm hoping is that you, the player base, post any questions/comments you have about the lists. If you play ret I suggest that you give these lists a try and give me some feedback as you play your games. If you get to play against RET and need pointers on how to beat them or if you have questions/comments about how you think your faction can handle these lists please participate to the discussion. Finally, these discussions aren't exclusive to the Ottawa Gatineau player base. If we have readers from different metas please participate and give us your take on how these lists would fair in your local meta.

So now the lists, you gus have already seen the Rahn list but for convenience shake here it is again:

Rahn

Phoenix

Phoenix

Arcanist

Arcanist

Magister

Magister

2 mage hunter assassins

2 units of stormfall archers

Battle mages

Infiltrators plus UA

Now I want to test 2 other versions of this list after the comments made after the last article. So here are the other 2 versions

V 2.1

Rahn,

Phoenix

Phoenix

2 magister solos

2 arcanists

2 units of battle mages

Halberdiers plus UA

This variation allows for more troops on the table, 2 tar-pits and lots of magic weapons. The halberdiers can do some damage to heavies on mini feat turn and the phoenixes can also dish out the hurt should they need to.

V 2.2

Rahn

2 phoenixes

2 arcanists

2 magisters

Sentinels plus UA

Halberdiers plus UA

2 units of battle mages

The sentinels can dish out the hurt but aren't as good a tar-pit as the infiltrators and i don't see myself using 3rys in any other list.

Finally, the last modifications that I could see for this list would be to take out one of the two units of battle mages to add an artificer and a houseguard Thane. This final switch will really depend on the efficiency of the second unit of battle mages. I'm not convinced that I should double up on them nor am I convinced that I should never play with two of them. Practice and time will tell.

My other two list that I'm toying with at the moment are an Ossyan list and an EVyros list.

First off Ossyan;

Ossyan

Sylys

Banshee

Chimera

2 houseguard Thanes

Arcanist

Halberdiers plus UA

Riflemen plus UA

2 units of stormfall archers

Lady aiyana and master holt

I know that Ossyan's usefulness or general playability has always been debatable. I personally never liked this caster. My dislike for him is one of the reasons why I want to play him. However, the release of the houseguard thanes have made him all the more alluring. The riflemen are now able to ignore stealth and concealment which makes them usefull but why Ossyan and not Ravyn? Simple, shatterstorm! This one simple spell makes Ossyan the go too guy against Circle (removes from play.... Take that Goat lady!) and Cryx (up yours Egaspy!). The chimera is there to shuffle shatterstorm between the halberdiers and the riflemen. The banshee will be there for the knock down followed by a world of hurt from the stormfall archers and since this is the shooty list aiyana and holt are there to help out against the menoth match up. I would really like to have some MHSF in there somewhere but I can't find anything I'd want to replace.

Last but not least, EVyros.

Evyros

2 griffons

Aspis

2 arcanists

Narn

Fane knight Issyen

Invictors plus UA

Sentinels plus UA

MHSF plus UA

I know that the general consensus with EVyros is playing him with alot of griffins and going for the synergy build. I personally hate this build and it doesn't fit my playstyle.  So I went for the easy rider build. In this list everything is pathfinder, almost everything is fearless and you still have 3 jacks should you want to go on synergy street. You'll also get good use from the invictors flank considering you have 3 low cost jacks of which 2 have reach. On feat turn you have 3 really nasty heavy hitters to place as you see fit (Vyros, Narn and the fane knight) and having so many troops make calculating attack vectors almost impossible for your opponent.

So there you have it folks, please use the dojo to discuss and try out these lists. I'll be waiting for your comments.
